Online Training-cum-Orientation Programme on National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) organized for KVKs of ATARI Zone-II

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-II, Jodhpur in collaboration with ICAR-National Research Institute for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi, organized one days online training-cum-orientation programme on July 29, 2026 on National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) for KVKs of ATARI Zone-II.

Dr. J P Mishra, Director, ATARI-II, Jodhpur in his introductory remarks observed that the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS), developed by ICAR-NRIIPM in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), GoI, is an important digital initiative for strengthening pest surveillance, early warning and delivery of timely, location-specific pest management advisories to farmers. Further, he said that considering the extensive network and last-mile outreach of KVKs, it is important to actively involve KVKs in promoting awareness, adoption and effective use of NPSS among farmers, FPOs and other stakeholders. For this purpose, it is essential that KVK scientists are adequately oriented and provided hands-on exposure to the functionalities and field-level application of the NPSS platform.

The programme was organized in four sessions chaired by Director, ATARI-II, Jodhpur. The first session included welcome and introductory remarks by the chair and experts. The second session was technical session- I, on ‘overview of the NPSS’, in which Dr. Niranjan Singh, Principal Scientist (Computer Applications in Agriculture), ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delh, presented the origin of the NPSS, collaborative partners, use IT tools for NPSS, features, functionalities, and user Interface of NPSS. The third session was technical session-II, in which Dr. Niranjan Singh online live demonstrated the use of NPSS App in mobile explaining its features, functionalities, and user Interface. The NPSS portal functionality and features were also explained. The fourth and final session was for Feedback and valedictory, in which participants raised their doubts and queries about NPSS which were clarified by the expert.

Dr. B L Jangid, Principal Scientist (AE), ATARI-II, Jodhpur, in the valedictory session expressed that the KVK scientists are expected to promote NPSS and farmer onboarding with their regular training programmes, demonstrations, field days, farmer-scientist interactions and other extension activities. Particular emphasis may be given to facilitating installation, registration and use of the NPSS application by farmers so as to strengthen real-time pest surveillance and timely advisory delivery at the grassroots level.

The programme was attended by 66 Subject Matter Specialists, mostly from plant protection disciplines, from KVKs of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi states.
