The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Agricultural Extension Division is one of the Subject Matter Divisions where the major activities are of Assessment, Refinement and Demonstration of Technology/Products through a network of 669 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). The Division of Agricultural Extension, ICAR, New Delhi is headed by Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) supported by 2 Assistant Director Generals. The thrust areas of Agricultural Extension Division are:
ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Jodhpur is one of the 11 ICAR-ATARIs formerly known as Zonal Project Directorates (ZPDs) functioning under Division of Agricultural Extension. ICAR has established a vast network of KVKs all over the country under the administrative control of various ICAR institutes, State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), State Department of Agriculture, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other institutes for implementing the central governmental projects/schemes. In the Zone, 7 Agricultural Technology Information Centres (ATICs) are working for delivering the “Single Window” delivery system. Since, Zonal Project Directorate has been elevated as ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), the mandates of ICAR-ATARI has also been changed where socio-economic research is one of the integral components.
ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jodhpur is mandated to coordinate & monitoring of technology application and frontline extension education programs and strengthening agricultural extension research and knowledge management in Rajasthan, Haryana and New Delhi. During last three years, ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur. During the last three years (2014-15 to 2016-17), ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur have conducted 1154 on-farm trails for appropriateness of the location specific technologies.

श्री जीवनराम, गाँव बुजाड़ा, तहसील बिछवारा, जिला डूंगरपुर, राजस्थान के मध्यमवर्गीय किसान है। इनकी शिक्षा बारहवीं तक है तथा इनके पास स्वयं की 4 हैक्टेयर खेती योग्य भूमि है। परिवार की आर्थिक स्थिति कमजोर होने के कारण ये बारहवीं के बाद नहीं पढ़ सके और परिवार की आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए ये कुवेत चले गये। वहाँ पर भी ये सफल नहीं हो सके और वापस आकर अपने पिता के साथ मिलकर खेती करने लगे। इनके पास खेती योग्य पर्याप्त भूमि और जल की सुविधा होते हुए भी खेती की नवीन तकनीकियों की जानकारी न होने के कारण अधिक लाभ नहीं कमा पा रहे थे। पूरे परिवार द्वारा स्थानीय तरीके को अपनाकर खेती में लगे होने के कारण परिवार अपनी आर्थिक जरूरतों को भी पूरा नहीं कर पा रहा था। वे मक्का, चावल, गेहूँ, मूंग, उड़द, चना और गन्ने की फसलों की स्थानीय किस्मों की बुवाई अपने खेत पर करते थे। उनके पास 2 भैंसे भी थी जो कि बहुत ही कम दूध देती थी। पाँच वर्ष पूर्व उन्होंने 7 संकर प्रजाति की गायें और 3 मुर्रा प्रजाति की भैंसे नाबार्ड की सहायता से बैंक आँफ बड़ौदा, बिछवारा, जिला डूंगरपुर से 25 प्रतिशत छूट पर ऋण लेकर डेयरी प्रांरभ की, परन्तु उचित कौशल के अभाव में वे इससे ज्यादा लाभ नहीं कमा सके। इस कारण वे इस क्षेत्र में प्रशिक्षण लेने के लिए संस्थानों की खोज करने लगे जिससे की वे अच्छी आय प्राप्त कर सके।
Annual Zonal Workshop for KVKs of Rajasthan & Gujarat Organized at JAU, Junagarh

A three days Annual Zonal Workshop for 72 KVKs of Rajasthan and Gujarat has been inaugurated on 10th June at Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh.
Dr. S. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Jodhpur in his introductory remarks briefed about initiatives and achievements of various flagship programmes implemented through KrishiVigyanKendras of Rajasthan and Gujarat such as National food security Mission, National Mission on Oilseed and Oil Palm, Skill Development in Agriculture, Soil Health Cards, Pradhan MantriFasalBima Yojana, Attracting and Retaining youth in Agriculture, Farmer FIRST, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav. He advised the KVKs to promote swachchtaprogramme, cashless transaction and Direct Benefit Transfer, etc. in an efficient manner. He thanked Dr. A. R. Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh & Dr. A. K. Singh, DDG(Agril. Extn.), ICAR, New Delhi for sparing their valuable time to grace the occasion despite their busy schedules. The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. A. K. Singh, DDG (Agril. Extn.), ICAR, New Delhi mentioned about the huge network of 673 KVKs all over the country contributing in science-led technology application, cluster front line demonstrations and dissemination in the field of agriculture. He stressed the KVKs to generate 30% fund of their expenditure through own efforts.
